(PANA) Rights groups hail pardon of Equatorial Guinea opposition leader

A group of human rights bodies have hailed the pardon by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea of Dr. Wenceslao Mansogo Alo, the prominent political opponent and human rights defender.

 

 A group of human rights bodies have hailed the pardon by President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea of Dr. Wenceslao Mansogo Alo, the prominent political opponent and human rights defender. In a joint statement obtained by PANA here, Human Rights Watch, Physicians for Human Rights, and EG Justice described the move as a 'positive step'.

The groups said, however, that the country’s judicial system, which pursued the unjust and politically motivated charges against Dr. Mansogo, is riddled with problems that need to be addressed.
