Human Rights Watch and EG Justice said Wednesday that they have evidence to suggest a constitutional referendum in Equatorial Guinea was nothing but a sham.

 

Human Rights Watch said Wednesday it has evidence to suggest a constitutional referendum in Equatorial Guinea was nothing but a sham.

Equatorial Guinea announced nearly all of the eligible voting population cast their ballots in support of a constitutional referendum.

Human Rights joined the Washington group Equatorial Guinea Justice in describing the referendum as a way to ensure President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo can hand-pick his successor and maintain control over the country even if he leaves office.
